At The Literary Farmer, we strive to grow organic, beginning with the seeds we choose. Living in remote coastal Virginia, we have limited choices at the grocery store, and, honestly, at the farmers' markets. So, we choose varieties that are hard to come by or are often expensive at food markets. We grow every vegetable from seed, often started in the greenhouse before spring. That's why our gardens are two to three months ahead. We also push the seasons by growing cool crops in the winter using hoops and blankets.
We specialize in heirloom organic tomatoes, like Cherokee Purple, Black Krim, Brandywine. But we also like to try new organic varieties like Brad's Atomic Grape, Ananas Noire, Wooly Kate Yellow Cherries, and many more.
